How many different social networking sites do you use?
South Towns Appliance is on Facebook, Twitter, and now, foursquare. These sites are valuable to you, the consumer, because we can use them to quickly disperse information to you. It might be a product recall, a new product announcement, a coupon or special, or just to let you know what we have in the store right now.
You can give us your feedback through these sites as well – mainly through Facebook, but also through foursquare. If you like something or got a great deal, please write on our Facebook wall or leave a tip on foursquare! We also have a “reviews” tab on Facebook where you can critique the product and/or service you received. Is there something we don’t carry that you would like to see? Do you have a question about product features? (We can’t, however, give technical or repair advice through these venues.) We love to hear from our customers! And we rely on word-of-mouth from happy customers, so be sure to tell your friends.

We have received word that certain Frigidaire and Electrolux brand cooktops and slide-in ranges have been recalled. Please see the link above for more information. If you have one of the affected units, you should stop using it immediately and unplug it or power the unit off at the circuit breaker. So What Happens If I Have a Problem With My Appliance?

So you just purchased a new appliance. Congratulations! You purchased it from South Towns Appliance? Thank you!
Now, things are going along well, everything seems to be working fine, when all of a sudden (or maybe more gradually), something isn’t so fine anymore. Your refrigerator doesn’t seem to be cooling well, your washer isn’t agitating, or some other problem is happening. Call All Appliances Parts and Service at 649-4803. (We’re two separate companies in the same building.)
The person on the phone will ask you some questions: How old is the appliance? What is the make and model (this information can be found on a sticker on the appliance itself – if you’re not sure where to look, they can tell you)? What is it doing or not doing? When and where was it purchased? They will then get your name, address, and phone number and give you some information about what to expect with your service call. A service technician will then come to your home on the designated day to diagnose and repair the appliance.
But, you say, my appliance is brand new! It was only delivered a couple of months ago! It’s frustrating, we know. We sympathize with you. The problem may be a simple adjustment that needs to be made, or you may not be using it 100% correctly – for example, overloading your washer, which doesn’t allow it to clean the clothes effectively. If it’s more than that, we will need to make repairs and/or replace parts on the appliance. Why can’t we just give you a new appliance?
We have to follow the procedures put forth by each manufacturer when it comes to repairing or replacing your appliance. Each case is evaluated individually, but generally, the appliance is repaired. I can’t emphasize enough that this is the manufacturer’s procedure. We have to follow it, or we don’t get paid for the parts or labor to make the repair. Your appliance will still have the one-year manufacturer’s warranty following the repair. The fact is, you just get a dud every once in awhile. We know that you’re disappointed, and we are too. But the manufacturers do pay attention to the problems that occur with each model, and make modifications to correct or prevent them. Sometimes the problems lead to a recall. It costs the manufacturer money to correct problems during their warranty period, so it is in their best interest (as well as yours and ours) to eliminate them in subsequent production runs or “model years”.
Should there be an ongoing issue with your appliance, we will do our best to act as your advocate with our brand representative. We can present the issue to them and recommend a resolution. This may mean that they will replace the appliance, or they may pay for parts and/or labor to repair it (which will depend partially on the age of the appliance). Not all retailers will do this for you!
If you didn’t purchase the item from South Towns Appliance, and are still within your warranty period, we still may be able to help you. Call our service department for guidance.
If your appliance is out of warranty, you will be required to pay for parts and labor to repair it. The technician may evaluate it and recommend that you replace it instead. Rest assured that our technicians have your best interest in mind – all of us would rather not see you put hundreds of dollars into an older machine that may break down again soon. But, your appliance may still have alot of life left in it, and the repair will be well worth it. If your appliance is deemed irrepairable, come to see us at South Towns – we may be able to offer you a discount on your new appliance!
When you buy a new appliance, we offer an extended warranty. I would highly recommend adding it. At present, it costs $109.95 plus tax – but a typical service call starts at $89.95 plus tax for labor only. When you add up the parts and labor of a repair, it will most likely be more than the cost of the extended warranty. The warranty covers all functional parts and labor for five years from the date of delivery (or pickup). Two things make this warranty an even better value: food loss coverage and a no lemon guarantee.
The manufacturer’s warranty on a refrigerator or freezer does NOT cover food loss….if your refrigerator or freezer stops working for whatever reason and all your food spoils, your appliance will be repaired or possibly replaced, but you will not be reimbursed for the food you lost. The extended warranty offers coverage from DAY ONE – so if the unit is under one year old, the manufacturer will pay for the repairs and the extended warranty company will pay for your lost food. (You would have to submit an itemized list of food lost and proof of purchase for the replacement food, but you would be reimbursed.) Think about the dollar amount of food you have in your refrigerator or freezer on a regular basis – is it worth more than $109?
Say you have the same problem with your appliance three times after the manufacturer’s warranty expires, and you have them fixed through your extended warranty. If a fourth repair is needed for the same problem, the appliance will be replaced. This is their no lemon guarantee. Will this situation happen to you? Probably not, but it has in the past, and it’s nice to know that you won’t be stuck having the same problem fixed over and over again.
The repair procedure is a little bit different when your appliance is covered by an extended warranty. It is administered by a third party company, not South Towns Appliance, so we’re a little bit similar to an insurance agent in that resepct. If you have a problem, you can call us at 649-4800 and we can look up your information – make, model, and serial number of your appliance, date of purchase, which company your warranty is with, and whether it is still valid. We will then give you a toll-free number to call for authorization – you need to call the warranty company and give them your information, and describe the problem that you are having. Unfortunately, we cannot call the warranty company for you – they must speak with you directly. We ask that you request All Appliances Parts and Service to do the repair on your appliance, but please understand that they can assign a different servicer if they choose to. The warranty company will then send an authorization to the servicer, who will contact you to set up an appointment. This process usually takes less than twenty-four hours, but can take longer in some instances, particularly on weekends or holidays. Remember, you can always ask for a copy of the warranty terms and conditions before you purchase the extended warranty. (Click here to view the terms and conditions for the extended warranty we currently offer.) You may have what is called a component warranty. This type of warranty is valid for ten years from the date of purchase, and covers only the major component of the appliance (and usually the most expensive part) – such as the magnetron tube on a microwave. This type of warranty covers the part only – NOT the labor to diagnose, remove, or re-install it. You may want to consider purchasing a five-year extended warranty in conjunction with a component warranty for complete coverage.
So, after all this warranty talk, you may have decided that you want to get one for your new appliance. We only have nine months after the delivery date of the appliance to add it for you – that is the time frame that the extended warranty company gives us. If you didn’t purchase your appliance from South Towns, we still may be able to help you – we will simply need dated proof of purchase from where you bought it. Manufacturers offer extended warranties as well, but, truth be told, they are usually more expensive than the one we offer. The advantage is that you generally have a longer time to add them on after purchase.
If you’ve had a problem with your appliance, please accept our apologies. We understand the frustration and inconvenience that it has caused, and hope that an acceptable resolution has been found. Hopefully the information presented here has been helpful to you, and you will consider it next time you purchase an appliance. Welcome to South Towns Appliance’s new blog! We’re glad that you found us. We hope that this will be a somewhat informal way to convey information and opinions to our customers and potential customers. We also hope that, through comments, you will give us your feedback on the material presented here, as well as on our products and services. We strive to maintain the highest levels in both, and your opinions are necessary to help us do that. We may occasionally ask a question, or direct you to an area on our website that we would like you to critique. Like all retailers, we are constantly changing our environment and the way we present things, and would like to know what features you would find valuable, in products, services, and the way we present them.

How did you find us here? Through the link on our website,

www.southtownsappliance.com, via our Facebook page (www.facebook.southtownsappliance.com), or another way?We’re very proud of our new and improved website, launched this summer. We use the “Clearance” and “This Week’s Specials” sections to show you the great deals that we are currently offering. You might wonder why certain products are on clearance. It may be because we were able to buy them at a discount, they are last year’s models, or they are floor models that we need to move to make room for the newest models. Everything we sell is new and includes at least a one-year manufacturer’s warranty. (There is also an extended warranty available to purchase.)

We offer most of the major brands you can get at other retailers. There are some, however, that we do not carry, for various reasons, the main one being that we have had issues with the product, parts, or service in the past. It may be that we had a situation where the same type of product failed repeatedly, or the manufacturer was not able to supply us with parts in a timely manner. Our job is to make our customers happy, and we know that you won’t be happy if your new refrigerator fails and it takes a week to get authorization for us to replace it, or if you need a part for your washer and it is on backorder for three weeks. So, we will sometimes make the decision not to carry or service certain brands.

Why should you choose to shop with South Towns Appliance instead of, say, a big box-type store? We have four main reasons.

Compare our prices to local competitors, and if you find the same product cheaper somewhere else, ask us to match it. We will if we can. It’s that simple.
We carry most major brands, and are constantly evaluating our product offerings to make sure that we have a selection of both the newest products and the reliable standbys available.
We offer award-winning service – who will you call for repairs if you purchase your appliances elsewhere? Will someone at the big box store be able to answer your technical question after purchase and delivery, or just refer to the manufacturer’s 800 number? All Appliances Parts and Service, our sister service company, is in the same building as South Towns Appliance and employs factory-trained technicians to get your appliances up and running as quickly, smoothly, and cost-effectively as possible. If it’s not worth fixing, they’ll tell you so, rather than letting you put hundreds of dollars into a machine that may well break down again in a month or two. If you need advice on a repair or a problem, just stop in to the store and someone should be able to answer your question.
Experience. Our sales staff sells appliances, not appliances and furniture and electronics. With over 100 years of combined experience, they know the ins and outs of appliances and will be able to find a solution to your issue.

Another reason to choose South Towns Appliance is courtesy. That’s all, common courtesy. When you shop with us, you will be dealing with polite people who use common sense. No one will try to sell you something you don’t need, and we’ll do all we can to make you happy with your purchase.
